Posted about getting out in the shop and actually doing something in the Turning Bench Forum and was told I needed to post a pic, so here it is: My oncologist recently passed her boards and I figured a congratulatory gift was in order, so . . .

Jerry - THAT is a sharp looking pen! I didn't realize Mesquite was so dark (that's what you used wasn't it?)
I like the add-on clip too - I'm sure she will absolutely love it!

Well done, looks like you've been turning them forever!
What type of pen is that? Where did you get the kit from?

Yep, that is Texas Mesquite. Mesquite takes on different colors depending on the soil it was grown in. Some places it grows has red clay and it takes on a nice red color to it that I really like. Other places it has a brown color to it. It is quite dark. I like to refer to it as Texas Mahogany. The kit is a "Euro" style which is available from several distributors. Some of them have a variety of clips available as an add on, you buy the complete kit then pay extra for different clips. Craft Supplies USA/Woodturners Catalog has the Euros and Slimlines available as Create-a-pen Kits which allow you to choose from different plating options as well as several center bands and clips.

Wish my photography did the wood justice. looks like you've been turning them forever! Well, not nearly forever, but I've turn more than a few. It has just been a while since my last one.

Nice kit, nice wood and a really nice pen. It's just like riding a bicycle, isn't it. Good job.
