Good idea Boodrow. I would never have thought to try a stopper on a screw cap bottle. That is a cool bottle and the stopper looks good in it.
Do you actually use a stopper like that? Easier to use than a screw cap and looks neat too.

Doug a friend of mine has used one in his crown bottle ever since I started makin the things. He loves it , dont have to mess with a screw lid , he opens it and throws the lid away. My self I dont drink crown , too much money , and havent found anything better than the natty lite! ;D And I have carried this to one of our shows to display , but forgot to take it on the last one. The stoppers will also fit in olive oil containers from what I have been told?? Just thought Id give u future Bill Gates some more ammunition to throw at the public. Boodrow

AWESOME - actually - I have thought about liquor bottles, not just wine bottles, but - not much of a "fine hard liquor" drinker - if I'm drinkin' it - it's probably more like gasoline.
The thing I like most about your post - that partially squared stopper, VERY cool idea!! It actually fits more of the "liquor bottle" look.
Speaking of the "fit" of stoppers on other bottles - any one ever use the SS mini-stoppers from PSI? I bought 10 of them, but they seem to be a tad small.... they plug the bottle, but you couldn't get a tight enough fit to pick the bottle up by the stopper, and I wouldn't trust the bottle on it's side.... of course - this was ONE stopper I tried on ONE bottle.
Just curious.
Thanks! Zac

Cold here too! But would like to see the pics Boodrow. Silly me, I just thought that you started with a perfectly square blank and did not turn it completely round.
I like the looks of that, so the pics of the jig are appreciated. Once you get unfrozen that is ;D

I thought the exact same thing Doug, a pic of the jig would be great when it's handy to get.

I do the same thing at the craft sales - shows that it fits every bottle... And the same bottle of Rye that I drink too, Boo - can't beat Crown! They make it not far from here! I didn't know you could buy decent Rye down there!

OK I tried to post 7 pics , only 4 posted. To give a little bit of info , when I first made this jig it was flat. What happened is the table saw blade got into the bottom part of the stopper. So I built it on an angle that would only cut the top portion of the stopper. I think it looks better my self. I stopped by a local weldin shop and bought the 1x8 all thread for 1.00 dollar , it was a reminent. I use toilet bowl bolts for the wood clamp that holds the threaded rod in place. After usin it I realized it dont need to be near that wide , but its there so what the hell. The square nut on the back side of the bolt gives me a 90 degree reference. I havent tried yet , but I will do an 8 sided stopper. I drilled a hole in the square nut , tapped it and put a allen head set screw in it. Works pretty good as far as lining up to make the cuts. I dont remeber the degree of the sleds I made to set it up so it wouldnt get into the lower section of the stopper, but I think it was somewhere around 25 degrees. I also didnt show it on my table saw , But did show were I screw it to my crapsman miter gauge in the table saw miter slots. OK here is how I do it. I turn the wood round just like I would any other stopper , sand it then put it on the jig and cut the flats. Then take sand paper and smooooth it out and finish it. Thanks for all the replies and if I can help u in anyway to build one of these let me know. Boodrow
