UFO-watchers Ahoy! I found this in a dumpster together with some woodworking and metalworking tools. Does anybody know what it is?

I won't swear to it, but I think it's a "leading" tool from back in the days when autobody work was done with lead instead of plastic body filler. If I understand correctly, the lead would be heated just to the melting point, so it'd flow onto the (acid-etched) dented steel. A spoon like that one was used to chill the surface fairly quickly so it could be built up instead of just running off onto the floor. Tricky work, lead. A gasoline blowtorch was used to heat the steel & lead. Could be something else altogether, though. You DID gather up all those tools, right?

Thanks......Looking in the bookshelf...... In my car body repair handbook from 1959 the only leading spud mentioned is a wooden one smeared with sheep tallow. Then comes half a page on the advantages of sheep tallow compared to the inferrior swine lard. By now you should know me well enough to know the answer of that question I picked what seemed to be usable. This thing and a small Sargent block plane missing the lever cap. The rest of the tools were damaged beyond the point of no return..

Then it must be for somebody with boots way smaller than my size 48 (US size 13) ;D
It is only about 6 inches long.

Oh, GEEZ - I didn't realize it was that SMALL. (Where have I heard that before? ) Maybe... just a tiny prybar? Wood putty applicator?

Not an IRON one, you can't! Actually, not even a Balsa one. Anyone else notice how when you turned 45 your muscles started getting softer. One more reason I built the pirogue. I paddled 8 miles last Tuesday. Man I was sore.

Bet so. Quite a few years ago, my ex & I paddled a canoe across Lake George (NY) in calm weather... and just as we got to the other shore the wind kicked up & gave us pretty heavy surf (for a canoe) to paddle back in. By the time we hit the "home shore", I was just about flat busted.
