Guns: don't own any, never will. BUT I love to look at them and when I do fire them I really enjoy it. I can understand why folks do own them. I just love anything mechanical. I love things well crafted. I love tools that are shiny and new. I love tools that are worn and well used. Most of all I love tools that belong to ME.

The only time I regret buying tools is when I'm in the middle of a move--like now.

I live 2 blocks from my local Harbor Freight store. And I have a lot of duplicate tools because of this.

I have an obsession with tools! I love to find old ones and make them work again. I love the new ones that purr when you switch them on. I love to browse the tool section at the BORG each Saturday to see what has gone on clearance. I love the new and shiny. I love the old and rusty. At least I know I am not alone!

Zac I was a line mechanic for 28+ years. Ive spent thousands on tools for the automotive trade. I remeber back in the late 70's if I rember well that the metric chit came out. All it done was cost poor slobs like me a lot o money. To this day I still think metric chit in the states is wrong. Anyway when I went to work for the Post Office as a fleet mechanic they furnished our tools. Since I quit doin mech work on the side my tools mostly just set there. Had to put a water pump on my pickup a couple months back. So I have what I need to get the work done. Id prob be lucky to get a dime on the dollar for what ive invested in automotive tools. When my dad passed away in 96 I got his tool set as well. I have no grandson to leave my tools to. But at this point I just cant part with um. When it comes to woodworkin tools im all eyes. Cant seem to get enough. So Im a wood tool nut , but not auto tools. Boodrow

When my son got out of the Navy and began plying his Navy learned trade in Aviation Electronics for a civilian contractor I thought that he was gonna have to buy several thousand dollars worth of his own tools. Turns out that the company does not allow its employees to bring their own tools in to work. They have to check tools out from a tool room which gets inventoried at the end of each shift to insure that every tool is in it place in the tool room and not left inside the turbine of some million dollar airplane motor.
Another thing that makes sense, but sorta surprised me was that they have no electric drill motors but use push drills or egg beaters. Plenty good for drilling aluminum and no sparks from motors to fry sensitive electronic components.

Jerry,
Very neat story about checking each tool in and out - I did know that they used manual drills often because of the sensitivity of some of the electronics they work around.
Boodrow - at least you have all the stuff to work on your own vehicles - my suggestion, don't sell them if you don't have to. You may find someone to pass them along to, if not - let the estate worry about it when you are good 'n' dead. Seriously, I couldn't have the heart to sell any tools for pennies of what they were worth unless I absolutely had to. Just my opinion though.

I am NOT a toolaholic. I do search the internet and find new tools, build a huge house so I can have excuse to buy tools. But is is all for my enjoyment and I am NOT addicted to buying tools. I know that buying top rated tool for some thing I use twice a year is not cost effective but it's because I 'preciate quality and NOT because I'm addicted to tools. I am NOT a tool.

I got one of those ultrasonic vibrating cutter things for christmas that they came out with recently. I was running out of tools for her to get me and thought that would be handy some day. I picked it out. I got the Dremel because of the price and as any old-timer can tell you Dremel is the MOST AMAZING END ALL TOOL MAKER OF ALL TIME !!!! :-) Well the other day I was refacing a vanity in a bathroom. Quick project for a Sunday afternoon. Got the piece cut and realized that to install it, I had to move the dryer so I could move the washer out so I could pull the base trim off of the wall and cut it down and then put it all back. Then I remembered that tool. I got it out and buzzed off a tiny bit off of the trim while it was on the wall. 30 seconds, done. THAT put a smile on my face. I love those odd tools that you don't use very often, but when you need them you are SO glad you have them.

Hello, I'm Mark and I'm a toolaholic . . . I have a ton of tools . . . ww tools, mechanics tools, power tools, hand tools . . . I've got a little of everything. With the old stuff like hand planes and saws and such, I tend to shop by price . . . I've got some of the nicest stuff for under $5! I don't use them nearly as much as I'd like .. . but they are there waiting for me . . . and when I shop at flea markets, I see them . . . I always seem to buy a thing or two. Mechanics tools are just about complete for what I want (which is more than what I need) . . .but it's nice to be working on the car and get into a tight spot and say . . . 'hey, I have the tool for that!' . . . I might have too many ratchets though. Power tools . . . they are easy to store and I have all I really need right now . . . that's not to say if the right thing came along at the right price . . . that I'd pass it up or anything. Stationary tools . . . have all I can fit . . . if I buy, I have to sell . . . 'nuf said there.
