Have been considering getting a drawknife.
The options are as endless as the sky is big... I know that Lee Valley is great company. Are there any others I should consider?
Primary use would be to remove bark from trees before slabbing. My thinking is this would keep saw chains sharper by not having to cut through dirt and grime in the bark.
Any thoughts on which type? Straight, round, 90* handle...which would be more comfortable to use? Other brands to consider?

I like the ones with the slightly curved blade for that type of work. Also, handles that are adjustable, as well as being capable of folding over the blade to cover the sharp edges when the knife is stored are a good idea. I would also check ebay and local junk and antique stores for vintage ones. They can usually be had fairly cheaply ($10-$20 unless they've gotten more popular than they used to be) and are quick to clean up and make ready for use. In fact, I just did a quick search at ebay, and found this one that would be perfect. Ten hours left, no bids, $19.95 starting bid.

i have a couple of drawknives - the fixed handle type. they are very useful for roughing things out too... debarking - great. you will need a spokeshave for fine work, tho the one Jerry found you is very nice. i would like to add a folding handle type to my collection b/c when sharp, they are nasty dangerous DAMHIKT I believe Wilkinson to be a good make. Pexto and Witherby also made good ones...

Scandinavian style drawknives with a curved (concave edgeline) blade and handles in line with the blade are by far the best ones for debarking. If you can find one......
