I am making wooden planes again. Here is a picture of two old planes that I made new irons and wedges for and one completely new plane. The blades still have to be hardened and tempered and sharpened. A friend who is a skilled hobby blacksmith has promised to do the hardening for me. yfrog.com/6zhyvlarjSince the picture was taken I have finished one more plane and another one is well on the way.

Cool!!!
If you get in a bind and need something hardened before your friend can get to it, hardening and tempering, depending on the type of steel used, is not real tough to do and you can do it with minimal tools.

Don't tell us that you made those with your broad axe. Those are very nice and a lot more work than the common home built wooden planes.

Nice work...and nice bench there. I used to work on one that had a good worn top like that. Is that your wear or first owner's?

Just noticed the bench, and that looks like two or three owners lifetimes of wear. Great bench!!

Is is a very good and heavy bench.
I was told that the previous owner made the bench when he was a teenager learning joinery at Terjärv Crafts Shool. That must have been in the 1950-ies roundabout. I bought it from a antique dealer whom I know.
I made a new tailscrew wice as the old one was completely worn out and smashed. Because of this I got the bench at a good prize.

Two more new planes The wider plane will produce a moulding that I fund on the original window sills in a farmhouse built sometimes around 1810. The narrower one produces my version of a common late 19th century moulding.
